Williams Hardware Owners – The McCarrell Sisters – Joyce and Nancy McCarrell – Getting the Party Started on the Swamp Rabbit Trail

They knew the trail would bring cyclists to this small town and they would want water, restrooms and nourishment.  Their hunch was more than right on!!  The 10 miles of trail between downtown Greenville and Travelers Rest became a destination ride because they opened a restaurant for people to ride to Travelers Rest, have lunch, and ride back to Greenville.

Experience Asheville To Greenville

The beauty, southern hospitality, and overall experiences that await travelers to Asheville, North Carolina and Greenville, South Carolina have us thinking there's a new way to experience it all. You've heard of the staycation, but why not build an itinerary that allows you to experience the best of two neighboring cities over the course of a few days. We won't quit our day jobs, but we think we're on to something with the Ville-cation.

We think the best way to start your Ville-cation experience is with a few good night’s sleep. Start your adventure by checking into one of the “rooms” offered by Asheville Glamping. Personally, we love the Deluxe Bell Tent. Not a camper? Don’t worry, that’s the whole point of glamping. You’ll still get a fabulous night’s sleep on a Queen memory foam mattress, but with all the mountain views and stargazing you’d expect from an outdoor experience. Start the next morning with a cat head biscuit from Biscuit Head and make sure you’re properly fueled for your day exploring what some are calling Beer City USA. No matter what type of food you’re hungry for, Asheville has it. Whether it’s the brewery tours or the outdoor adventure of this welcoming mountain town, you’re sure to work up an appetite and have it satisfied without any problem.

Once you’ve completed the first leg of your Asheville to Greenville tour, it’s time to head to the second destination. Just over sixty miles down Highways 26 and 25, you’ll find Greenville, South Carolina. Not long ago an afterthought of a city on the drive from Charlotte to Atlanta, Greenville is now the place some outdoor enthusiasts are referring to as the next Boulder. Yeah, you heard us. Greenville has it all. This town has mountains, bike trails, a foodie scene that has Charleston paying attention, and a brewery scene that holds its own against much bigger cities. When you arrive in Greenville, stop just outside town for a craft brew at Swamp Rabbit Brewery, named after the town’s rails to trail Swamp Rabbit Trail. Walk to your room for the night at Swamp Rabbit Inn Travelers Rest, or hop in the car and head for the original Swamp Rabbit Inn in downtown Greenville.

Experience the blossoming restaurant scene in Travelers Rest, which features tacos, BBQ, pizza, and even an American style Gastro-pub. After refueling and resting, it’s time to explore the city now known as yeah THAT Greenville and find out what all the buzz is about. Start your day with a Happy & Hale breakfast and take in some of the museums on Heritage Green. There’s art, history, and even a children’s museum that will have young and old alike delighting in learning and exploring in new ways. Grab one last local beer at Birds Fly South, just off the Swamp Rabbit Trail, and top off your experience with tacos from White Duck Taco next door.

As you wrap up your Asheville to Greenville experience and reflect on all these two neighboring Southern cities have to offer, perhaps you’ll set the bar higher next time. No matter how you choose to experience The Villes, check in to Asheville Glamping and Swamp Rabbit Inn for hospitality like no other, in two towns that are like no other.

East Bound and Down: Upstate South Carolina - Pinkbike

For the first time in the rich and storied history of this series (See: hyperbolic), there isn't a singular focus on any specific city for this particular story. I spent a week in a town called Travelers Rest, South Carolina, a community of roughly 5,000 souls located in Greenville County.
